Since there seems to be some popular demand for this, here's one I took the other day of the USS Carl Vinson rolling in.

Carl:
*not noted as an intimidating name, generally
*makes for an intimidating ship
*maybes it's the "Vinson" part
*"Beware, Karlvincen the Merciless"

I see that there is a large marina right there. Does the Navy make them stay off the water when the aircraft carrier passes through? Like for security purposes?

Nope. Obviously they need to stay out of the way or die from the collision but civilian boats and Navy ships coexist as they pass through the channel. Just don't try to approach them up close when they are moored, else you'll conjure the ire of the guys in these:

Carl Vinson (D-GA 10th Dist) was a major force for re-building and expanding the US Navy from just prior to WWII (so much so he was known as "The Father of the Two-Ocean Navy"), through to the appropriations for the Enterprise . Much like John Stennis , Vinson had done so much for the Navy they named a Nimitz-class carrier named for him while he was still alive.

Soooo I promise I wasn't being a creep but I was curious about the view, so I went looking for the neighborhood on Google Maps and almost immediately stumbled on your house. But now I'm curious - any noise from the airport?

Yep. Just noting in a semi-trollish manner that ship names, coming as they often do from the ordinary names of uncommon men from a prior age, sometimes come off a bit goofy sounding. Take for example the Curtis Wilbur.

Yup. We can see pretty much all of North Island. It's so freaking awesome!

Not out here in La Playa, no. The house I own (we are renting this one for a few years) is in Loma Portal and we get airport noise there. out here all you hear are helicopters across the way at North Island.
